Time For The Holiday Parties? How To Avoid Toilet Troubles
The holiday season has officially begun. It's time to start spreading the holiday cheer. If your plans for spreading the holiday cheer include hosting a few parties, it's also time to make sure your toilets are working properly. The last thing you want is to have your holiday cheer interrupted by toilet troubles. Here are some strategies that will keep your toilets problem-free this holiday season.
Start with Your Plumber
If you haven't called your plumber yet, you should. This is the perfect time to have your toilets, and the rest of your plumbing, inspected. Not only can overuse wreak havoc on your toilets, during the holidays, but so can the cold weather. In fact, the cold weather can wreak havoc on all your plumbing. Beginning the holiday season with a plumbing inspection will ensure that everything is in tiptop shape, and ready for action.
Eliminate the Problem
If your toilet has seen better days, you might want to talk to your plumber about a replacement. While toilets are designed to last for a long time, they're not designed to last forever. Unfortunately, once your toilet decides it's time to throw in the towel, it might not give you much warning. If you've cracks in the porcelain, or your toilet has lost it's oomph when it comes to flushing, have your plumber replace it while they're out inspecting the rest of your plumbing.
Keep a Plunger by Each Toilet
If you're going to have a houseful of guests for the holidays, it's a good idea to keep a plunger by each of your toilets. You never know when something is going to get flushed down the toilet that shouldn't be, or someone is going to use a bit too much toilet paper. If you have a plunger next to each toilet, your guests will be able to take care of the problem without causing a scene, or any embarrassment. It's also a good idea to move your Kleenex away from the toilet area. If your Kleenex isn't near your toilets, your guests will be less likely to flush them, which will help you prevent clogs.
Designate One Guest Bathroom
If you've got multiple bathrooms that are accessible to the family gathering area, designate one for specific guest use. By designating one as the guest bathroom, you'll be able to isolate potential toilet troubles to one bathroom. That way, if a problem does develop in the guest bathroom, you'll be able to open the other one while you're taking care of the repairs.
