No One Wants A Cold Shower: Learn Why You May Not Be Getting Enough Hot Water
When you turn on hot water to wash your dish, clean your hands or take a shower, you expect hot water to flow through the lines. However, in some cases, you may not get any hot water at all, or you may get far less than you were expecting. Here are a few of the reasons why you may not be getting enough water from your hot water heater.
Your Water Tank is Set to the Wrong Temperature
One of the reasons why you may not be getting as much hot water as you would like is because your water tank is set to the wrong temperature. If you have recently had work done to your water heater, have recently had a new one installed, or had someone who could have accidentally brushed up against the water tank, the knob that controls the temperature may have been moved. If the temperature setting on your tank has been lowered, water may not get as hot as you want or last for as long as you would like. Take a look at the temperature setting to see what it is as set at and adjust it accordingly. Your heater should be set between 120 and 140 degrees.
The Water Tank is Filled With Sediment
Another reason why you may not be getting as much hot water from your hot water tank as you would like is because your water tank is filled with sediment. When water flows into your tank, it may carry sediment and debris with it, such as dirt and rust. This sediment can build up at the bottom of your tank, reducing the efficiency of your unit. Flushing and cleaning the tank can remove the sediment and increase the amount of hot water you get.
Your Water Tank Needs Repairs or Replacement
The final reason why you may not get as much hot water as you are used to getting is because your water tank needs repairs or replacement. If your heating anode, dip tube or other parts are failing, water may not heat up. Replacing these parts, or replacing a unit that is nearing the end of its lifespan can ensure you have all the hot water you need.
Are you not getting enough hot water from your hot water heater? If you are not getting as much water as you need, you should contact a plumber. They can determine why you may not be getting enough hot water and whether cleaning your tank, making repairs to the tank or replacing your tank is needed. Contact some local plumbing contractors to get help with your hot water tank and to ensure you do not have to take a cold shower.
